Portland author, designer, and color-lover Lee Meredith was our guest at the July meeting.

I first heard of Lee Meredith when I was at a local yarn shop talking with some of the knitters there. When I saw her book, Coloring Book, I was hooked. It is all about knitting with color and has some great ideas of ways to do that. Right then I knew I wanted her to do a presentation for guild.

When she came to the guild meeting she talked about ways of beginning to use more color in our knitting. She recommends starting with smaller projects and pairing neutrals with a bit of color when trying out new color combinations and go forward from there. Experimenting with color is fun and exciting. In fact, she emphasized that knitting should be fun and working with color in new ways can be fun.

She also shared that she makes many swatches trying out new combinations. She has a very creative mind and is often swapping different stitch patterns within a shape to see which one works the best.

Lee really encourages experimenting with stitch patterns and colors and swapping them around within a swatch. Surprising things happen when this is done and often it is pretty amazing.
I hope everyone that heard her presentation has done a bit more experimenting with color – – it is magic. – by Y’vonne

Do you have August 8th circled on your calendar? You are needed that day to help at the Knit Out and Crochet Too. The Knit Out is an annual event at the Tigard Public Library. The Knitting Guild and Crochet Guild join together to teach the public how to knit or crochet. The event is from 11:00am to 3:00pm. You can volunteer for an hour or all day, whichever you choose, but please volunteer.

We had a bit of miscommunication with the library, so the Knitting Guild will not have a lobby display case this year. We can display all of our items the day of the event. That’s where you come in. Everyone needs to bring lots of knit items to the next meeting. Please attach a label with your name on it to everything. All items will be returned at the August meeting. If you need it back before the meeting date, please let me know and I will get it to you. There are lots of tables to cover with sweaters, afghans, scarves, crocheted toilets, gloves, hats, etc.

If you have any questions, contact Nancy New.
