Casting On and Binding Off Mini Workshop – Level 2
Date/Time/Location: Saturday Mar 18th, 2017 1:00-3:00 pm at Calvin Church
Program: Casting On and Binding Off 2
Our next mini workshop will continue where we left off at Level 1. It is not required that you attended the first CO/BO workshop; however, we plan to cover more advanced topics so participants should be comfortable with the basics covered in the first workshop. The class will cover Tubular CO and BO, Channel Islands and some similar BO, and sewn BO. Our instructor, Sue Lambert, is a Master Hand Knitter and an integral part of The Knitting Guild Association Master Knitter program.
Bring smooth, light colored yarn in a couple of different colors and appropriately sized needles. Using worsted weight yarn and size US 7-8 makes it easier to see your stitches as you learn. Hang tags to mark your swatches are also useful.

Finishing Techniques Mini Workshop
Date/Time: Saturday, June 11, 2016 10:00 am to noon at Calvin Church
Program: Finishing Techniques with Mary Scott Huff
I’m excited to announce that Mary Scott Huff is going to be teaching our first mini workshop on finishing techniques. There’s a limit of 25, so be prepared to register at the May 19 meeting. If you are not able to attend the meeting but want to register for the workshop, you can mail your registration form to Lou (make checks out to Tigard Knitting Guild). The address is on the form – in the May newsletter. The mini is being offered at the BARGAIN price of ONLY $15.00! What a deal for a two-hour workshop that will cover the following finishing techniques.
Weaving in ends as you go and on various types of fabric (seed, garter, 1x and 2x rib)
Folded hem to hide cut edges and for use on button bands
Using I-cord to finish edges and for marking a transition between stitch patterns (e.g., hats with different patterns on the band and the crown)
After all the time and effort spent on knitting a sweater or a beautiful lacy shawl, the steps you take to do the seams and weave in all those pesky ends could mean the difference between proudly wearing your garment or hiding it in a drawer. Here’s your opportunity to learn from someone who has perfected the art of finishing.
Come and join the fun. I will get class information and required homework to you as soon as possible.
