Holiday Potluck and Party – Dec 18th, 2014

pumpkinpie2 It’s Christmas time again and our 2014 Annual Christmas Party will be held on December 18th. As usual there will be a potluck and gift exchange. This year the potluck will be managed a little differently than in the past. The guild will provide the main dish of a couple of meat choices. All members need to bring a dish according to your first initial of your LAST name: A-G Sweet and H-Z Savory. (In case you are wondering, anything that isn’t sweet is savory.)
Please bring enough for at least 10 servings. (more…)

Simple Kool-Aid Dyeing

For those who attended the dyeing demo program, you saw with your very own eyes how simple it was to dye a skein of yarn with a large glass jar.

But for those who missed the meeting, you can still join in on the conversation. Here’s a YouTube video demo:

Food-Safe Dyeing

IMG_1575 Have you ever wanted to try yarn dyeing, but didn’t want to invest in a new set of pots and pans for it? At our November meeting, TKG member Jung Kang showed how you can use “food safe” dyes, like Kool Aid and food coloring. These acid dyes produce vibrant, nonfading colors on animal fiber yarns. Jung demonstrated several methods, including hot water immersion dyeing in a glass jar, and painting the yarn with several colors using plastic squirt bottles. She also gave away five “kits” of yarn and dye packets at the end of the meeting. – Marina

Yarn Swap and Silent Auction

Our October meeting was a silent auction, which means people brought yarn, patterns, needles, and related things they wanted to sell or just get out of their stashes. First we set up everything on tables downstairs, with a bid sheet for each item. There was also a free table of patterns and yarn that people brought to give away.

Then the fun began: we prowled around all the tables, writing our names and bids on the sheets next to our favorite items, hoping that nobody else would outbid us. Several items did go for more than the requested minimum amount, but most sold at bargain prices.
